This will take you around 40 minutes to an hour depending on your speed and whether you take the toll roads.
The quicker you are off the plane, the nearer the fron tof the queue you will be for the hire cars. Once in the car, follow the exit signs, and as you leave the car parking areas, follow the signs to Malaga, and keep in the right hand lanes. You will come to a roundabout near a brewery and again keep in the right hand lane following the signs to Algerciras, and you will join a dual carriageway. Again keep right, and after about two miles, there will be right turn off to Algerciras/Cadiz. Take this and you will be on the motorway heading west. After around 16 miles, the motorway splits, and you want to keep on the the toll road. Once past Marbella look out for the turn off below, A7 or N 340. This important as if you miss this turnoff you will end up staying on the toll road and the next exit is some way ahead, and you will have to come back to the resort the other way.
After about 8 miles, look for the huge white letters of VILLACANA on your left, and then the turn of is 500 meters after, on your right. As you turn off, you want to turn immediately left, down a road for a few hundred metres, (see diagram) and at the end, turn left under a bridge, and left again, to take you back the way you have come. Follow the road so you are going back by the side of the main coastal road you have come down for a few hundred metres, and you will see a sign post for Hotel Playa del Sol. Turn right there and go down to the end and turn right and you will find the Villacana car park on your left.
You will also see markings on the signs and you are heading for 165/166km, so go real slow and you will get the right turnoff, and as soon as you see the Villacana sign below, you have arrived!!!!

The rough directions are above and this will take you around 40 minutes to an hour depending on your speed and whether you take the toll roads. Our recommendation is that you take the direct route north out of Gibratar, as detailed below and take the toll road as it is quicker.
As you leave the airport you will have to carry your bags for a five minute walk, across the border and a few minutes to the car hire place. The quicker you get off the plane, the nearer the front of the queue you will be
The easiest thing to do is when you have the keys, all walk to the end of the row of shops and one person can go and get the car, drive out of the car park and pick the others up. Once loaded up just drive straight on and follow the map.
The road you are looking for is the 383 to Malaga, but if you miss it just get any road to Malaga.
There are a lot of signs for you to come off to Estepona, and if you do that's not a problem, just stay on the coast road going north, but, ideally, you will pass Estepona on your right and then the road splits, allowing you to edge to the right and come off signposted for the A340
